Kamara becomes commitment No. 7 for the Tigers

CLEMSON – The Clemson Tigers picked up commitment number seven for the 2013 recruiting cycle when 3-star defensive back David Kamara gave his verbal late Wednesday evening.

Kamara’s commitment means that Clemson now has commitments from two of the “Grayson Trio” out of Loganville (Ga.) Grayson High School. Kamara joins running back Wayne Gallman , leaving only the nation’s No. 1 player in Robert Nkemdiche to decide.

Kamara, along with Gallman and Nkemdiche, is at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp after arriving in Clemson Wednesday afternoon.

Kamara told TigerNet that he was sitting around during activities late Wednesday evening when he made his decision, telling Gallman and Nkemdiche before heading up to Dabo Swinney’s office.

“I was just chilling with everybody and around 9 p.m. or so I knew it was time,” he said. “I told Wayne and Robert, and they were excited for me. Wayne has been bugging me about and recruiting me, so he was pretty happy.”

He then headed to tell Clemson’s head coach.

“I went up to his office, and I told him I was ready to be a Clemson Tiger,” Kamara said. “He got a big old smile on his face and he came around his desk and gave me a hug. I then called my mom and she told my brother, and they said they were happy for me. It’s a big relief.”

Kamara chose Clemson over offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Illinois, Tulane and Wake Forest.

Kamara said the Tigers were getting a player who never gives up.

“I am a determined player,” he said. “I won't ever give up. I like to give it my all on every play of every game. They will get everything possible out of me.”

As a junior, Kamara recorded 53 tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles as he helped Grayson to the AAAAA state championship.
